Now that I am finished with my Holland Website, I thought that it would be a good idea to include some advice for not only future MMA (Multimedia Applications) students, but also anyone who wants to make a website using WordPress or any other programs. Without further ado, my advice:
Good luck! You are about to embark on quite the journey of website advice. Here are a few pieces of advice that I wish I had been given, or what I figured out worked for me through this project.
1. Pick a good topic! Pick something that you are interested in, is not too big, but also try to think of something original or personal to you. It will come out in your final project whether or not you cared, and having a finished project that is actually applicable is pretty cool. Additionally, I know it sounds cheesy, but listen to Mr. Sommerer when he says, “pick something your future self would be glad you picked”.
2. Don’t be afraid to work at home (before the last week of the project). In my class, it was always a little too loud and distracting, so I mostly worked on content at home, and other more “mindless” tasks at class. It worked for me, but if you know that you may have a difficult time motivating yourself out of class, it might not go well for you.
3. I know that you hear this a lot, but please please use your time wisely. The due date may seem like a long way in the beginning, but the due date comes fast, and then you will be in a world of hurt if you procrastinated some of the work.
