Art Portfolio

Art Portfolio

For my freshman year at Lincoln Lutheran, I am enrolled in a class called  Intro to Visual Arts which is taught by Mrs. Seitz. In the class, we learn about the elements of art and design by creating different hands-on projects with different medias and application techniques. For the first unit of the class, we discussed  different lines and their qualities and using are newfound line skills, created a portfolio cover.  A portfolio is a “giant folder” that includes a cover and a back, to hold and protect our artwork- so I will staple my designed cover to a blank piece of paper to hold my projects this semester. I specifically designed my portfolio to represent all the different things a line can become- from a whimsical rose to a straight geometric pattern.

To create our portfolios, we first sketched out different forms of lines, and eventually created a sketch that was a scaled down version of what we wanted  out portfolio to look like. We focused on including different qualities of lines- curvy, thick, thin, etc. When our “final” sketch was done, we blew it up and copied it to our large piece of paper, first in pencil, than in Sharpie to emphasize our line designs we had drawn.

Although this project was long, tedious, and repetitive, it was one of my favorites. I enjoyed this because we were allowed to be creative and make it look like what we wanted it to- besides being instructed to use lines, we had no other limits, which made it fun to create whatever we wanted to, and make it look however we wanted it to look.
