Ink Self Portrait- Intro to Visual Arts

Ink Self Portrait- Intro to Visual Arts

This semester, I was enrolled in a beginning art class, entitled Intro to Visual Arts, taught by Mrs. Seitz. One of the major goals of this class is to explore different medias and versions of art, along with some art history, and other various art lessons.

For this project, we first learned how to use a pen and ink (yes- actually an old fashioned pen, ink, and nib)! This process was a little grueling if I’m honest- but it was cool to explore a new method of art! For the actual self portrait part of this, our teacher  took a picture of us, filtered it black, and we traced it over a copied piece of music or literature (I choose I Christmas carol)! We then spent 5 hours filling in tiny details to make our black and white portrait look authentic!

This project was definitely one of my favorites- to see a picture of me emerge from a bottle of ink, a pen, and a hymnal was super cool- although it was a super time consuming project!
